Spouse Similarities

Hello! This week has been great and filled with lots of learning, studying, and discussing. I wanted to share something I read, with you all, that I found very interesting. It's from a study found in the book, "Marriage and Family-The Quest for Intimacy" by Robert and Jeanette Lauer. In it, they asked married couples to pick what they felt was most important, out of 39 options. These were the results...

Husbands
1. My spouse is my best friend.
2. I like my spouse as a person.
3. Marriage is a long-term commitment.
4. Marriage is sacred.
5. We agree on aims and goals.
6. My spouse has grown more interesting.
7. I want the relationship to succeed.
8. An enduring marriage is importnat to social stability.
9. We laugh together.
10. I am proud of my spouse's achievement.

Wives

1. My spouse is my best friend.
2. I like my spouse as a person.
3. Marriage is a long-term commitment.
4. Marriage is sacred.
5. We agree on aims and goals.
6. My spouse has grown more interesting.
7. I want the relationship to succeed.
8. We laugh together.
9. We agree on a philosophy of life
10. We agree on how and how often to show affection.

They listed a couple more, but wow! How amazing is that? Out of the "Top 10 Things" that are MOST important to the Husband and Wife... 7 out of the 10 things were the EXACT SAME and in the SAME ORDER. Amazing! I love this study because it helps me see that husbands and wives are a lot more similar than we sometimes give them credit for. Although, males and females are very different, when it comes to the core and most important things within marriage and family, we can and should be united.

A thought I want to close with for this week is... Why do you think the #1 answer was number one? Why is having your spouse be your best friend so important? Why would "liking your spouse" be listed as #2? And why do you think these marriages succeed due to having these 2 factors be placed in 'top importance?'

Have a great day and a happily ever after! :)
